On April 8th, the DFW Metroplex will be in the path of totality for a once-in-a-lifetime solar eclipse. Lovejoy ISD is excited to share this celestial opportunity with our students and staff! Weather permitting, students in kindergarten through high school will be allowed the opportunity to go outside to investigate the phenomena during totality. Because looking directly at the Sun is unsafe, Lovejoy students and staff will be provided certified ISO 12312-2 eclipse glasses. Students will be required to wear the glasses provided except when given teacher permission to remove them during totality. Solar Eclipse permission slips will be sent home by your campus. If you would like your student(s) to participate in the outdoor activities, please complete the permission slip and return it to your campus by April 2nd. Saturday, March 2nd the Lovejoy High School theater students competed against 6 other schools in the 5a District 13 UIL One Act Play competition. Lovejoy performed their selection of "The Women of Lockerbie" by Deborah Brevoort. We were one of the 3 schools chosen to advance to the bi-district competition on March 21st and 22nd in Terrell, TX. Student Zoe Nolan won the best performer for the entire competition (only 2 of these awards are given for the entire competition!). Chloe "Kore" Russell won an all-star cast award, Blake Gatlin won an honorable mention award, and Solar Randall won a technical award for best sound design. Congratulations, Lovejoy Theatre!

School Social Workers are trained mental health professionals with a degree in social work who provide services related to a person's social, emotional and life adjustment to school. School Social Workers are the link between the home, school and community in providing direct as well as indirect services to students, families and school personnel to promote and support students' academic and social success. Lovejoy ISD is fortunate to have outstanding educational diagnosticians that serve students across our district. Please join us in celebrating: Christina Paxton, Judy Hendricks, Elaine Dow, Lacy Massey, Tammy Williams, Vanessa Pembroke. Educational diagnosticians undergo specialized training to use academic and psychological tests to assess students suspected of disabilities, isolate factors that could enhance students’ performance in the classroom, and prepare formal evaluation reports. Congratulations to our Lovejoy High School Orchestras! ALL THREE were awarded UIL "Sweepstakes" for earning 1's (Superior) ratings from all judges on their stage performance and sightreading. Lovejoy ISD is pleased to announce that five students from Lovejoy High School have been named National Merit Scholarship Program Finalists: Declan Finnigan Grant Hu Joshua James Hannah Mao Edward Sutton Of approximately 1.5 million junior students who took the PSAT National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, the top scorers were identified among 50,000 for program recognition. From there, the top 34,000 were identified as Commended Students. As one of the top 16,000 students to earn National Merit Semifinalist standing, these students continued on to apply for Finalist standing. The students then submitted an application, essay, school-based recommendation, and verified their high academic standings as well as took another test- the SAT or ACT. These Finalists will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for about 7,150 Merit Scholarship® awards to be announced in the coming months. Leopard Reminder! My Community Credit Union (MCCU) Debit Card Design Contest Submissions are due Thursday, February 29th at Midnight. The contest is open to all Lovejoy ISD students. Three debit card design winners will be selected representing grades K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. The winners will have their designs on our Lovejoy Leopard MCCU Debit Cards and will receive a $100 gift card!
